In the bright classroom, the sunlight streamed through the glass windows, bathing the neatly arranged desks in its glow. Mr. Zhao Wei, a science popularization presenter from the Operation Department, stepped onto the platform with a smile, radiating confidence and passion. He introduced the basic principles, development history and important position of nuclear power in the field of energy to the students in a way that made the complex concepts accessible.

On September 12, “Nuclear-Powered Future” clean energy science popularization of TNPJVC for school and the first lesson of the new semester were carried out in Taishan No.1 High School. On the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, engineers from China and France jointly brought a class like no other to more than 130 students of Taishan No.1 High School.

Mr. Zhao Wei is not only an engineer of TNPJVC, but also a student of class 2018 of Taishan No.1 High School. As a senior schoolmate, he shared his learning experience, work and life in the nuclear power plant with the junior students present. He encouraged them to study hard and make a difference, and contribute to the national energy construction.

Then, French engineer Yoann CHOUIN stepped onto the platform with composed gait. Dressed in dark blue overalls, he has softly curled hair framing a face wreathed in a genial smile. Yoann is a Deputy Chief Engineer for Technology in TNPJVC, and also the bridge of technical exchange between China and France.

Yoann shared the French cuisine and scenic beauty, the journey and story of Sino-French energy cooperation, bringing students a unique classroom experience. With Yoann’s description, the romantic scenery and delectable cuisine of France seemed to unfold before the students’ eyes, leaving them utterly captivated.

“Sir, is the nuclear power plant safe?” “Sir, why do you come to China to build a nuclear power plant?” “Sir, do you like blue cheese” During the Q&A, the questions kept coming one after another, leaving Yoann overwhelmed. The classroom was buzzing with energy, filled with intertwining laughter and animated discussion.

The teaching material “Nuclear Science for You” used in this class was jointly published by TNPJVC, Jiangmen Ecology and Environment Bureau, Taishan Education Bureau and Taishan Association for Science and Technology. More than 25,000 students in the urban area of Taishan City have studied this book. After class, quite a few students approached the staff, expressing their hope to get a cope for their friends.

Mr. Ou Yaopei, a teacher from Taishan No.1 High School said that this science popularization activity at the beginning of the semester was of great significance. It not only opened a window to knowledge for the students, but also ignited the dream of dedicating to study and aspiring to contribute to the national development and human progress, allowing the students to experience the fascination of nuclear power field.

The students also said that this activity was highly rewarding. “I picked up a wealth of knowledge from this activity. Both teachers are role models that I look up to. I like this class very much!”  one student said excitedly.

At the same time, Taicheng Sub-district, where Taishan No.1 High School is located, is among the areas receiving the support of TNPJVC under the “Hundred, Thousand, Ten-Thousand” Project. In the form of science popularization activities, TNPJVC boosts the scientific literacy for local students and drives forward the construction of the local“Hundred, Thousand, Ten-Thousand” Project.

“The first lesson of the new semester” is a brand initiative of nuclear power science popularization, which has been carried out in surrounding schools for more than a decade. In the future, more Chinese and French employees will be encouraged to participate in science popularization activities. Thanks to the fun and informative nuclear power science popularization, more people from the public will gain the knowledge about the clean nuclear energy and nuclear power science popularization.
