On the morning of August 7th, the 11th "8 · 7" public open experience day of CGN was started. 10 families including 37 visitors from Jiangmen, Foshan and other cities walked into TSNP and began a brilliant parent-child research trip. Nuclear power terms such as containment, turbine and nuclear island became the group names of families, leading them into the world of nuclear power.
The first station of the activity was the science popularization exhibition hall. As soon as the visitors entered the door, they were attracted by various models. Under the vivid explanation of the commentator, visitors understood the role of these models. In addition to understanding the principles of nuclear power generation and the safety characteristics of TSNP, Luo Suting, the local commentator of Taishan, also shared her experience of employment in the plant, mentioning that she often hears her native dialect at work, which makes her feel particular close to home.
In the interactive Q&A part, the atmosphere immediately became lively, and everyone rushed to answer and show the nuclear power knowledge they just learned.
Later, the visitors arrived at the Cannes Hall to watch the documentary the First EPR Reactor Project. Before watching the film, Zhou Weixin, an engineer who participated in the documentary production, told the story behind the documentary. In the crucial year of the first EPR reactor decision-making, the documentary played an important role in uniting all forces to jointly promote the construction of TSNP.
After the broadcast, there was spontaneous thunderous applause on the scene. Everyone expressed their deep shock, exclaimed at the power of China's nuclear power construction, and admired the spirit of TSNP people to overcome obstacles and undertake missions bravely.
Then, the visitors went to Lu Lake, a popular scenic spot of TSNP, to experience the ecological green beauty of the plant. After knowing the origin of the Lu Lake's name and the concept of ecological and environmental protection behind it, everyone praised the ecological work of TSNP!
"I've always thought that nuclear power plant is covered drearily with gray. I never thought that its environment can be so beautiful!"
Pure White -- Environmental Safety of Nuclear Power Plant
Lin Lingqi, an engineer from the Department of Safety and Protection, and Li Yaquan, an engineer from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Protection, had face-to-face communication with everyone centering on radiation and environment. In the radiation and environment mini-class, everyone learned the ubiquitous radiation and the monitoring of the surrounding environment by TSNP. Li Yaquan also shared his interesting experience of sampling in the nearby villages and towns. Li held the environmental monitor to let visitors see that the radiation level of TSNP was consistent with the local radiation level.
During the activity, TSNP also carried out experiencing wearing the paper clothes of radiation protection articles. Lin Lingqi's Q&A explanation style let everyone know the strictness and standard of wearing paper clothes.“Nuclear power work is really rigorous!" Everyone kept exclaiming in admiration from time to time. Finally, at the request of everyone, the students wearing paper clothes walked around the classroom, and other visitors all reached out to touch and feel the magical paper clothes that can isolate radioactive pollution.
In the full scope simulator training classroom, everyone had a glimpse of the "nuclear power brain". Mr. Zhang Jinguan introduced the layout and functions of the simulator classroom. From the "spare wheel" function of the backup disk to the growth path of an operator, everyone was exclaiming how "reliable" they were. Mr. Zhang also shared his story in OL3 power plant in Finland for technical support. After the sharing, there was applause again. Everyone was proud of the country's nuclear power development.
At the site of TSNP, the tall nuclear island and conventional island buildings were all in sight. The majestic high-level gray highlighted the industrial charm. So, the parent-child study tour group took a picture here.
Dream Orange - A Warm Parent-Child Tour
With a focus on the characteristics of parents and children, we encouraged the family to work as a team and designed a quiz for them, during which everyone actively answered the staff’s questions. In the end, the nuclear island group, the turbine group and the generator group won the “Strongest Nuclear Power Award”. May their journey of exploring new knowledge always be fueled with boundless drive and unstoppable momentum.
“I feel happy to have learned nuclear safety!” “I’m proud of China’s leading technology!” “I hope my children will play an active part in nuclear power projects.” In the final session of “Lighting up the Future”, everyone penned their expectations for their children and themselves on the postcards.
“This study tour was not only a tour of science, but also one filled with humanistic care. It is a truly heartwarming and moving experience,” shared a parent after the activity.
